If there is one thing I miss about my hometown in Portugal is how quickly I could get to the beach. Lately, with the blue clear skies and hot weather, there is nothing I want more than to sit outside feet dug in the sand with a cocktail. Luckily for me the Go! Southampton team has been working with over 20 local businesses and organizations to create an urban beach.
For those you don’t know, I work at Go! Southampton as their Digital Marketing Executive. The organization was founded last year and has as its goal to improve the city by achieving various smaller goals that will improve the overall economy and lifestyle. This event falls under the ambitious goal of put Southampton on the map. Due to this event and many more to come, including Comedy Central Live, it’s becoming a realistic goal.
On the 19th July, Southampton’s very first 480m2 urban beach opened for a VIP launch party before opening to the public for 34 days. As part of the team, I organised a pre-VIP event for local bloggers to have a first-hand experience of the beach. I had the chance to visit the site with them and it is incredible. For the night, everyone was welcomed by the giant deckchairs that are now spread around town for a trail. There are 14 deckchairs around and prizes to be won – so don’t miss out on this opportunity.
The beach is divided into sections for everyone to enjoy. With a trading corner with local brands selling beach products, including Fat Face. A sitting area decorated by IKEA with colourful deckchairs and matching parasols creating a vintage beach vibe and Apero Spritz bean bags. A deeper sand play area for all 100+ Free activities, including Yoga by the amazing Heather – personally think it’s the best way to start your weekend! As well as a few adult only areas…
During the opening event, I got to try first hand the Orange Rooms beach bar as I did my own shake cocktail – I honestly surprised myself, it was pretty yummy. At the bar, you can order drinks served in bucket and spades or pina coladas in pineapples or many more beach themed drinks.
Next to the bar, you’ll find the cutest chill out area. Although it is adults only the IKEA garden is one of my favourite parts of the beach. Super well decorated, as to expect, it has three different awarded huts decorated by members of the Southampton team.
It was great seeing people enjoying all the hard work the team has been putting into this event, with live music on the background and cocktails in hands, I believe it’s about to be a great summer.
During the course of the event, there will be live music for all tastes, activities for all ages and fun for everyone! The event has now opened doors to everyone and I can’t wait to spend all my time in the sand.
